Hansen Surfboards Goes Barefoot to Raise Awareness for One Day Without Shoes April 5



ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to raise awareness for One Day Without Shoes.



In accordance with the organizers of One Day Without Shoes, millions of children grow up without shoes and are at risk of infection and disease on account of it.



"We are collaborating in One Day Without Shoes because we would like people to come into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot," said Josh Hansen. "We are doing this for the people who find themselves going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of a pair of shoes would be huge on an individual’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before."



In addition to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages the public to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a brand new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated within the store.



"The donated shoes accumulate pretty quickly, so whenever we are not able to keep any more of them gathered at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas with a trailer full of these shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them," added Josh. "Last year I drove there with a trailer filled with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It is one of our favorite programs here because we know that it has such a huge impact."
